Worship and John 4

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him" (John 4:23 KJV).

Some look at this passage and claim that the true worshippers are those who perform five acts of worship on Sunday. These are:

  1. Singing.
  2. Giving.
  3. Teaching/Preaching.
  4. Lord's supper.
  5. Praying.
Yet, there isn't a passage in the New Testament which plainly states,

  • "Singing is worship."
  • "Giving is worship."
  • "Teaching/Preaching is worship."
  • "The Lord's supper is worship."
  • "Praying is worship."
What is interesting is that John 4:23 says, "the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship. . ."

This means that the Samaritan woman could perform this "true worship" while standing with Jesus.

She did not sing.
She did not make a contribution.
She did not teach Jesus.
She did not partake of the communion.
She did not pray.

So, what was it she could do in that time frame of "and now is" which was "true worship"?
